Area InformationNenagh is the capital town of North Tipperary; it holds a population of around 6,000 people. Nenagh derives its name from “An tAonach” being Irish for market, as Nenagh was the market town for the local area.
Nenagh boasts many sporting facilities including football, sailing, golf, cycling, walking and angling. Nenagh has a least 2 dozen pubs, with many of them offering food. The award winning restaurant, The Peppermill is situated on Kenyon Street. There is a new 3-star hotel in the town, and various B&B’s.
Lough Derg lies, less than 6 miles from Nenagh. It is the largest lake, on the river Shannon, measuring c. 32,000 acres and 40 kms in length. There are several award winning villages situated around the lake like Terryglass, Dromineer, Portroe, Ballina, Garrykennedy and Killaloe. The Nenagh by-pass was completed in 1999 this was built to reduce traffic through Nenagh’s town centre.
